Hydro has announced through a press release that it has made progress in securing safe and stable operations across the operations after the extensive cyber-attack on Tuesday.

The release says that Hydro’s technical team has been able to detect the root cause of the problems with external help and is currently working on to restart the company’s IT systems in a safe and sound manner. The company however has not mentioned exactly how long it would take to restore stable IT operations.

After the detection of the problem, Hydro isolated all plants and operations and switched to manual operations and procedures yesterday. Hydro is currently focusing on ensuring safe operations and limiting operational and financial damage.

“I’m pleased to see that we are making progress, and I’m impressed to see how colleagues worldwide are working around the clock with dedication to resolve this demanding situation and ensure safe and sound operations,” says Hydro’s CFO Eivind Kallevik.

“I would also like to complement our external technical partners who have done an important job in supporting our efforts, and also relevant authorities, who handle the issue with the diligence it deserves,” Kallevik says.

The press release updates that most of the operations are running as usual to ensure timely delivery with the help of more manual operations.

The release confirms that Energy segment and Bauxite & Alumina segment are running as normal. Primary Metal production is running as normal, with higher degree of manual operation.

Inability to connect to the production systems has caused production challenges and temporary stoppage at several plants in the Extruded Solutions segment. The release confirms that progress has been made and Hydro is expected to restart certain systems during Wednesday to ensure continued deliveries to customers.

Rolled Product segment has also faced the same issue like the Extruded Solutions segment. Progress has been made on the systems and the company expects to restart certain systems during Wednesday to ensure continued deliveries to customers.

Hydro also adds that it is too early to estimate the exact operational and financial impact and it has made no official confirmation on the timeline towards normal operations.
